About the Project

The Big Apple Fest is a philanthropic art exhibit designed to promote a revitalized image of New York City by capitalizing upon "The Big Apple" moniker, fostering creativity and stimulating the tourism trade. The goal is to raise money for New York City-based nonprofit organizations: NYC & Company Foundation, City Harvest, Inc, and the Police Athletic League. These great organizations will benefit from corporations and individuals sponsoring "Big Apples."

Starting August 15th Apples will be placed all over New York City (Locations TBD). In addition, Sotheby’s will auction the Apples in December to support the charities.

About the Art

The "Sistine Apple" was designed and painted by Artist Glennis McClellan. This scene depicts the original “Big Apple” from the Garden of Eden using the figures from the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel as reference. The scale of this piece has been changed to emphasize Adam and Eve. The overall composition includes Eve on the front of the apple and Adam on the back (the head of Adam from “the Creation of Adam” will be used) - the figures will be divided by the tree of knowledge, a canopy of leaves encircling the top of the design. The design will include trompe l’oeil cracks and will be distressed to give it an aged appearance.
